Nuclear Plants are like any other company except they have scheduled outages which are shutdowns to perform preventive Maintenance.They bring in hundreds even thousands of extra workers to help with these outages.

These Extra Workers are in most cases the Independent Contractor.

Understand this before I go any further. SAFTEY is the #1 Goal of all these Nuclear Plants. You receive all the safety training you`ll need at each plant you work in. Matter of fact after you have worked a few of these outages the safety training gets kind of old because it`s about the same at each plant. That`s the name of the game though , Be Safe.

I know you`re concerned about Nuclear Radiation. Well Don`t Be. You will learn through the training that you get more of the same radiation from the Sun in a year than you will get working in the plant for a year. What I`m trying to say is it is really safe in these plants. So don`t let the fear of the unknown keep you from applying for these high paying positions.

Now that the safety issue is out of the way. Let`s take a look at a few other Points you need to know about the Application Process.

• The Application: will be several pages and will ask a lot of questions about your past. Answer everyone as truthfully as you can. Give them exactly what they ask for because they do check it out.

• Federal Background Check: this is why you need to be completely honest. If you don`t know the answer find it. Do Not Lie because they will find out and when they do, no more Nuclear Jobs for you. Don`t worry if you have had a few scrapes with the law because they understand that people make mistakes. But if you lie about it and try to hide it they believe you are not trustworthy. If they don`t believe they can trust you they won`t let you in. You will be asked for personal references and phone numbers. If you don`t have the correct number find it or pick someone you do have the correct number for. Be Honest Folks

• Have Patience: because it will take several months for your background check to be completed. When it is completed and you gain access to your first plant. It will open doors to many more nuclear jobs because headhunters know you will have that access for the next five years before you are checked again and that means less paper work, time and money to them.

• Your Resume: doesn`t have to be perfect but you want to be sure you have correct dates, phone numbers and has a cover sheet. If you don`t know how to write a resume just go to the net and type resume writing into Google Search. You will find a lot of great examples that you can model your`s after.

• Headhunters: are the ones that will offer you the position you`re seeking. Here is how it works. You find a position that you are interested in. Mail or e e-mail your resume to the headhunter. Wait a day or two and call the headhunter to make sure they have received it and wait. Don`t wait to long though before you call them again to ask about the position or any others you maybe qualified for. When I started I had a headhunter tell me to call every 10 days or so to keep my name on his mind because he never knew when he would need someone and usually those who had been calling or e-mailing him on a regular bases were the ones he contacted first.
